Women's Hockey tops So. Maine, 3-1

Maureen Hardwick scored the go-ahead goal and Tedra Mitchell added a late insurance tally to lead No. 8-ranked St. Thomas to a 3-1 win over host Southern Maine in non-conference play Friday night in Gorham, Maine.
Junior goalie Danielle Mikolai stopped 16 of 17 shots for the Tommies (14-2-1), who have won nine of their last 10 games. The Bears (9-7-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Toms tied it in the first minute of period two on Tiff Petermeier's power-play goal.
Hardwick scored at 5:52 of the third period for a 2-1 lead, and Mitchell scored at 18:20 of the third to close the scoring. UST outshot the Bears 31-17.
St. Thomas plays No. 5-ranked Williams Saturday night and No. 2-rated Bowdoin Monday night, both in Brunswick, Maine.
