Men's hockey wins 3-2 over Lake Forest

St. Thomas edged visiting Lake Forest 3-2 in non-conference men's hockey play Friday night at the Fairgrounds Coliseum.
Junior Mat Gershater stopped 13 of 15 shots to get the win in goal and junior Eric Wenkus had two assists for the Toms (4-5-2). Justion Howard stopped 23 of 26 shots for the Foresters (5-4-2).
After a scoreless first period, Mike McMahon scored a power-play goal early in period two to give UST a 1-0 lead. Tommie senior Ben Stauffer scored a power-play goal in the final minute of the second period to break a 1-1 tie. Junior teammate Tony Lawrence scored in the first minute of the third period for a 3-1 lead.
The Toms host St. Norbert Saturday (2 p.m.) in the Coliseum. St. Norbert topped St. Mary's Friday night in Winona, 5-1.
