Eau Claire rallies to beat Toms

The St. Thomas women's soccer team had its unbeaten streak end at 11 with Monday's 2-1 loss to visiting UW-Eau Claire. The Toms dropped to 10-2-4.

The Blugolds (13-4) scored twice inthe final 28 minutes, with the game-winner coming with 4:40 to go by Nikki Johnston.

After a scoreless first half, St. Thomas scored in the 53rd minute on a goal by Valerie Johnson (assisted by Tessie Thompson). The Blugolds tied it in the 64th minute on a goal by Kari Blasczyk (assisted by Tina Welle). Johnston's winning goal in the 85th minute was assisted by Becca Gibson.

Chandra Butterfield made 12 saves in goal for UWEC. UST goalie Jessica Christopherson had five saves. The Toms outshot Eau Claire 13-7.

UST, which was 9-0-2 in their previous 11 games, hosts Bethel Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) and hosts St. Ben's Saturday (1 p.m.). If UST wins those games, and Gustavus beats Macalester Wednesday at Gustavus, the Toms will be assured of at least a tie for the MIAC title.
