Walt Hobot graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1932. As a boxer for the University, Hobot was the 1928 Minnesota State Collegiate Boxing Lightweight and Welterweight Champion. He entered the professional boxing ranks in 1929 while still in school. Hobot competed professionally for six years.
