Pete Wareham graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1985. As a student, Wareham was a six-time All-American and a four-time MIAC champion in track and cross country. He compete in four national cross country meets and helped the teams place first, third, and fourth. He finished third at nationals as a senior, leading the Tommies to an NCAA championship. He scored on the Tommies' 1985 NCAA champion indoor track and field team, and was twice an NCAA individiual runner-up in cross country and in the outdoor track 5,000 meter race. He still holds the St. Thomas record in the indoor 3,000 meter race and ranks in the top eight in the 10K and in the indoor/outdoor 5K. After graduating, Wareham was a 17-year head coach and has had seven St. Thomas teams place in the top 20 at nationals.
