Paul King graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1980. As a student, King was the first MIAC runner to win a national championship in steeplechase (1979). He was named steeplechase All-American in 1979 and 1980. He helped Tommie cross country place third in the 1978 national meet, and helped the Tommies win MIAC cross country titles in 1978 and 1979. King still ranks near the top of the St. Thomas list in steeplechase (second) and indoor 3,000 (fourth).
