Bill Funk graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1944. As a student, Funk was named to the 1946 All-State football team as a quarterback, and was named as the 1946 St. Thomas Athlete of the Year. After graduating, Funk served as the assistant football coach under Frank Deig.
