Steve Huls joined the University of St. Thomas in October 2024 as Director of Development for the Opus College of Business. In 2025, he joined Tommie Athletics to support the continued work in both National and Athletics fundraising, helping advance the institution’s growing national profile while staying rooted in its mission.
Huls brings more than a decade of experience in higher education development, with a focus on major gifts and alumni engagement. Prior to joining St. Thomas, he served as Senior Regional Director of Development at the University of South Dakota Foundation, where he managed a portfolio of donors across Minnesota and beyond. He previously spent seven years at the University of Minnesota as a Senior Regional Development Officer, working closely with alumni and supporters across the central United States.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Huls was a baseball student-athlete for the Golden Gophers before being selected in the MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. He spent five years in the Twins organization before transitioning into a career in philanthropy.
Passionate about the power of education and athletics, Huls is energized by the opportunity to support Tommie student-athletes and the university’s strategic ambitions. He and his wife, a proud St. Thomas MBA alumna, reside in the Twin Cities with their two daughters, who are active in volleyball, basketball and softball.
