Regi Trotter joined the St. Thomas football staff as the defensive backs coach in February 2024. This will be his first season with the Tommies.
Trotter comes to St. Thomas from Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri. The former head coach helped grow a struggling program and was named the Coach of the Week by the Kansas City Chiefs twice in the last two season.
Prior to Central, Trotter spent 12 years coaching at his alma mater Missouri Western State University. There he helped the Griffons produce some of the best players and teams in school history, including the 2012 team. As the defensive coordinator, Trotter led the 2012 team to the NCAA Regional Final, where Missouri Western lost to NCAA semifinalist Minnesota State. Trotter, along with the entire 2012 football team, was inducted into the Griffons Hall of Fame in 2022. In addition to team success, Trotter coached seven defensive backs that spent time on NFL and/or CFL rosters.
In addition to his experiences at the Division II and high school level, Trotter coached at SUNY-Cortland and UTEP prior to his time at St. Thomas. He also held internships with the Kansas City Chief and St. Louis Rams.
Trotter lives in St. Paul with his wife Jen, who is the Tommies Head Softball Coach. The couple share 3 adult children, Quentin, Camille & Zoe
