Jason Schmitz joined the St. Thomas women's basketball coaching staff in April 2026. This will be his first season with the Tommies.
Schmitz joins St. Thomas after five seasons as head coach at St. Scholastica. During his tenure, Schmitz guided the Saints through their MIAC transition and led the program to one of its most successful seasons since the early 1990s. St. Scholastica closed the regular season with an overall record of 16-10 and earned its first MIAC Tournament berth since joining the conference. He also served as the Director of Compliance while with the Saints.
Prior to his time in Duluth, Schmitz spent three seasons as the head women's basketball coach at Centenary College in Lousiana, where he led the program to its most conference wins since the early 1980s. Schmitz also spent four years as an assistant coach at the University of Mary in North Dakota.
A 2008 graduate of UMary, Schmitz earned a degree in Social Behavioral Science Education before receiving his master's in Secondary Education from Worcester State College in Massachusetts.
