Elliot Powell joined St. Thomas Athletics in September 2026 as the General Manager of Tommie Sports Properties, bringing more than 10 years of experience in Division I athletics, fundraising, corporate partnerships and revenue generation.
Powell most recently served as Chief of Staff at Nepsis Inc., where he advised executive leadership, led cross-functional initiatives and developed strategic partnerships. Prior to that, he spent four years with University of Minnesota Athletics, most recently as Senior Director of Development, where he was responsible for revenue generation supporting the department’s top priorities. During his time with the Gophers, Powell generated more than $2 million in new cash for football NIL efforts, secured the department’s two largest NIL gifts at the time and personally secured more than half of the total NIL budget for the 2025 football roster. He also designed and executed a million-dollar matching campaign that generated more than $1 million in additional NIL funding.
Before joining Minnesota, Powell served as Assistant Athletic Director for Development at South Dakota State University from 2018-21, directing strategy and operations for the Jackrabbit Club annual fund while managing a major gift portfolio and partnering with coaches and staff to align fundraising with program priorities. He previously held development positions at the University of South Dakota and Army West Point Athletics, along with serving as Director of Regional Sales for Blackbaud, where he generated more than $750,000 in contract value through enterprise software sales to higher education institutions and foundations.
Powell earned a master’s degree in sport administration from Arkansas State University and a bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a minor in writing from Concordia University, St. Paul, where he was an NCAA Division II baseball scholarship student-athlete.
