Baseball bats quiet in two road losses to Cobbers

Tommie Baseball managed just one run and seven singles on the afternoon in Monday's 2-0, 12-1 losses at Concordia-Moorhead. Both games went seven innings.

St. Thomas (17-14 overall, 9-9 MIAC) has lost six of its last seven contests, all over the last seven days. The Toms dipped to 2-11 in games when scoring three or less runs.

Austin VerSteeg threw a two-hit shutout for the Cobbers in the opener. Tommie sophomore Graham Laubscher pitched all six innings. He struck out eight and battled to keep the damage to a pair of single runs in the first and third innings.

St. Thomas got its leadoff hitter aboard in three different innings, but hit into one double play and was unable to move the runner in the other opportunities.

Concordia raced to an 11-0 lead after two innings in game two.

Avery Lehman and Kyle Halverson each had one single in each game. Lehman has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games.

St. Thomas closes the conference season at home Saturday with two games against Augsburg (1 p.m. start).
