Tommie Softball earns four spots on CSC Academic All-District team

Katie Goelz, Sydney Mickett, Mackenzie Rudy, and Grace Bennett earn academic honor
St. Paul, Minn. – The St. Thomas Softball Team earned four selections to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team; the organization announced Tuesday. Junior Sydney Mickett and seniors Katie Goelz, Mackenzie Rudy, and Grace Bennett were honored for their accolades in the classroom and on the field.
Rudy, a general business management major played in 26 games and started in 20 games. She tallied one double and one triple while bringing home five RBI including four in the Tommies' first Power 5 victory over Wisconsin. She walked eight times in 46 at-bats. The Wisconsin native was selected to the 2022 Summit League Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence along with a spot on the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team. Over four seasons with the Tommies, Rudy played in 92 games and hit .215/.280/.316 with 38 hits including 14 extra-base hits, she brought home 18 runs and walked 14 times in 177 at-bats.
Bennett, an international studies major played in 36 games and made 21 starts. She pitched 30.2 innings in the circle with a 1-2 win-loss record and 15 strikeouts. The Minnesota native also tallied 68 at-bats in which she homered three times, including in the final game of her career. She racked up a career-high 11 RBI, 12 walks, and 11 hits. Bennett was selected to the 2022 Summit League Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence along with a spot on the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.
Goelz, an entrepreneurship major, played in 48 games and made 46 started in 2023. She batted .265/.322/.456 with 23 runs scored, 36 hits, tallied eight doubles, three triples, and four home runs while driving in 25 RBI. She walked 12 times, stole 14 bases, and recorded .975 percent of her 324 total chances in the field. Goelz recorded 10 multi-hit games and was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Performer of the Week on 2/27/23. Goelz was selected to the 2022 Summit League Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence along with a spot on the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team. She played in 108 games in her four-year Tommie career. She tallied 75 hits including 31 extra-base hits, 24 walks, and 29 stolen bases. She brought home 40 runs and scored 51 while slashing .269/.326/.430.
Mickett, a business major, started in all 53 games in 2023. She batted .214/.377.262 with 13 runs scored and 10 RBI. She slapped 18 base hits and walked 19 times. In the field she compilled a .955 fielding percentage on 80 putouts and 110 assists. Mickett was selected to the 2022 Summit League Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence along with a spot on the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.
Rudy, Bennett, Goelz, and Mickett are four of 23 from the Summit League named to the CSC Academic All-District team. This if the first group of Tommies from the DI program named to the academic team.
The CSC Academic All-District® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA.
