Boston, Mass. -- Freshman Andrew Rohde was named a finalist for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year by College Insider, the organization announced Thursday. He is one of 25 finalists for the award that is presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball.

Rohde was selected as the 2023 Summit League Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Tommie in the program's NCAA Division I era to earn the award in conjunction with a selection to the All-Summit League Newcomer Team. He was also a selection to the All-Summit League First Team, joining teammate Parker Bjorklund who was named to the second team, as the first Tommie student-athletes to earn spots on the all-league team since joining the Summit in 2021-22.

The Milwaukee, Wis., native led all Summit League freshmen with 17.1 points per game, a .448 field goal percentage, 3.6 assists per game, 1.7 steals per game, a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio, and 33.0 minutes per game. He ranks among the top 10 overall in those categories in the Summit League, and third in the country among all freshmen in points per game and seventh in field goal percentage. Rohde's 17.1 points per game are the most for a St. Thomas student-athlete since Bryan Schnettler scored 19.9 points per game and Isaac Rosefelt averaged 17.9 points during the 2006-07 season, excluding the 2020-21 COVID season. Rohde finished his 2022-23 with 531 points, becoming the first Tommie freshman to ever score 500 in a season.

During the DI era, no other Tommie has recorded more 20-point games in a season than Rohde's 12, including eight over the last 10 games. He's scored in double figures in 28 of the team's 33 games this season, including a career high 27 points during the regular season finale Feb. 25 at North Dakota. Rohde has recorded 10 five-assist games, including three games with eight assists, and has shot over 50 percent in 14 games.

The Tommies concluded their season March 6 with a 70-65 loss to Summit League Champion Oral Roberts during the semifinal round of the Summit League Championships. Rohde scored more than 20 points in both games of the league tournament, including 24 points in a win over Western Illinois and a team-high 23 against Oral Roberts.

The recipient of the 2023 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award will be announced during the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in Houston.
