Men’s Basketball Head Coach John Tauer announces summer youth camps

St. Paul, Minn. -- St. Thomas Men's Basketball Head Coach Johnny Tauer has announced the program's 2023 summer youth basketball camp schedule, including day camps and an overnight camp on the campus of St. Thomas.

The camp schedule begins with the overnight camp June 25-28, followed by day camps in July and August.
This will be Coach Tauer's 28th year of summer basketball camps at St. Thomas. Tauer is in his 12th season as Head Coach of the Tommies where he's guiding the program to a winning record in only its second season of Division I competition after an historic transition from Division III.
Coach Tauer was inducted into the St. Thomas Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. As a student-athlete, Tauer was an All-MIAC player, first team All-West Region, and Academic All-America, and as a senior led the 1994-95 Toms to a school-record 27-0 start, including an MIAC championship with an unprecedented 20-0 record. As a coach, he had the highest winning percentage in the nation at the Division III level when the Tommies moved to Division I in 2021. He has a doctorate in social psychology with an emphasis in the study of motivation, creating a unique background of athletics and academics to inform his coaching and camp philosophy.
Coach Tauer's camps focus on the fundamentals of basketball and the importance of discipline, work ethic, mental toughness, and teamwork, in a fun and exciting environment.
