Grand Forks, N.D. - Senior Biel Wiel's last college cross country race was a memorable one as he clocked a program-record 8K time of 23:26 and finished in seventh place in a field of 66 runners at Saturday's Summit League Championships to lead Tommie Men's Cross Country to third place out of eight teams.

Coach Pete Wareham's squad posted its second top-three team finish in a row after taking second place in 2021. The Purple put their top seven runners within 59 seconds of each other, and all seven clocked 24:25 or faster. The top three, all seniors  -- Wiel, Moe Smith and Zach Haire -- all broke 24:00.

South Dakota State repeated as team champion with 18 points, North Dakota State scored 64; the Tommies recorded 78; North Dakota hit 109; and South Dakota rounded out the top five teams at 126.

Wiel placed seventh in 23:26; Smith placed 16th in 23:57; Haire closed in 17th place at 23:59; Charlie Caven placed 19th in 24:01; Colton Halla took 23rd place in 24:14; freshman Caden Nordberg placed 27th in 24:17; Tony Weeks ran 24:25 for 31st; Harris Anderson clocked 24:57; freshman Jon Roux ran 25:04; and senior Adam McCollor ran 26:19.
