Dance Team finishes second in jazz, hip hop at UDA College Nationals

Orlando, Fla. - The University of St. Thomas dance team competed at the 2022 UDA College Nationals, the first time competing as a Division I squad in program history, in Orlando, Fla. The Tommies earned second in both categories that they competed in.

"Jumping up to Division I and coming out second in the nation is an incredible accomplishment," said head coach Julia Harris. "It really is the memories and pride we have in being Tommies that makes this team and sport so special. They are incredible individuals that pushed passed their limits to be the best team they could possibly be. These athletes have a special bond and love for this team that makes the hard work all worth it!"
 
The team competed in the semifinals on Jan. 15, advancing to the finals in both Division I Jazz and Division I Hip Hop. In the jazz semifinals, the team finished third, and amassed a score of 91.913. The Tommies earned a second-place finish in the hip hop category after tallying an event score of 90.913.
 
On Jan. 16, the Purple competed in the finals for both categories, jazz, and hip hop. The team finished second in the nation in both Division I Jazz (94.5362) and Division I Hip Hop (91.5362).
