Women's CC puts three runners in top 80 at D-I Griak race

Senior Olivia Moll placed 64th in a field of 234 runners in a time of 22:35 to lead Tommie Women's Cross Country to an 18th-place finish out of 21 Division I teams at Friday's Roy Griak Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota. She was one of three Toms to place in the top 80.
The 6,000-meter event over rolling hills at the U of M golf course in Falcon Heights on a cloudy, breezy morning was St. Thomas' first race as a Division I program competing in D-I.
Coach Joe Sweeney's team ran close behind a few Summit League teams in the competition, which included conference favorite South Dakota State (10th place, 354); North Dakota State (13th, 399), South Dakota (14th, 401), North Dakota (17th, 426) and the Tommies (18th, 443).
The Purple were picked fifth out of nine teams in the Summit preseason coaches' poll, behind South Dakota State, North Dakota State, South Dakota and North Dakota.
Rounding out the top 10 finishers for the Purple were senior Sarah Miller, who placed 75th (22:51); freshman Molly Desotell, 77th (22:53); freshman Ava Pankratz, 145th (23:50); freshman Gabby Witschen, 162nd (24:10); soph Christina Bolcer, 174th (24:27); junior McKendra Long, 186th (24:41); senior Caroline Johnson,187th (24;43); and senior Gabbie Bolcer, 194th (24:49).
The Tommies are scheduled to race again next Friday Oct. 1 at the Notre Dame Invite.
No. 19-ranked Minnesota topped No. 30 Iowa State, 51-81, for first place. Tennessee, Liberty, No. 6-ranked Michigan State, Georgia Tech and Gonzaga took the Nos. 3-7 spots.
