Tommie Football had two honorees in the Pioneer Football League Player of the Week awards announced Sunday after its exciting 12-9 comeback road victory at Michigan Tech. Both recipients were playing their first games in a Tommie uniform in what was the season-opening contest for the Purple.
Sophomore kicker Louis Hyde (St. Louis Park, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) was named PFL Special Teams Player of the Week. Junior cornerback Johnson Fallah (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) was selected a PFL co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Hyde drilled a 32-yard field goal with 59 seconds left to break a 9-9 tie and send the Tommies toward the victory. He kicked a 33-yard field goal into the wind in the second quarter.
Fallah shared the award with Dayton's Brandon Easterling. The Tommie had three pass break-ups and five tackles, but his biggest moment came with 14 seconds to go and Michigan Tech on the edge of field-goal range. Fallah's interception at the 14-yard line secured the victory.
