Tommie sophomore-eligible Zach Haire is one of five runners voted to the 2021 Summit League Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team announced Tuesday.

The Breckenridge, Minn., native led the Tommies to an outstanding debut season in Division I. He also is a star in the classroom with a near-perfect 3.99 grade-point average while majoring in Financial Management.

A young St. Thomas team recorded a runner-up conference finish and had three other strong races -- at the University of Minnesota, at Notre Dame and at Bradley. Haire and the Purple beat a couple of regionally-ranked teams during the season with a tight pack of runners near the front.

Haire helped the 2019 Tommies reach the NCAA Division III national meet to cap a solid freshman cross country season. Last May during his sophomore season on the track, he placed ninth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor meet at 10,000 meters.

This fall Haire placed fourth out 62 runners at the Summit championship race in Tulsa with a time of 24:48. Two weeks earlier he recorded a career-best time of 24:38 for 8,000 meters and placed 21st in a field of 259 runners to lead St. Thomas to sixth out of 31 Division I teams at Bradley's Pink Classic. At the Notre Dame Invite he finished 19th out of 128 runners, close behind teammate Colton Halla, in a time of 25:38. at the U of M Gophers' Griak Invite, he took 65th in a field of 224 runners in a time of 25:50.
