St. Thomas Senior Associate Athletic Director, External Affairs, Jason LaFrenz announced today Travis Langer has joined the University as Director of Athletic Communications.
Langer brings a diverse resume of developing and implementing communications efforts and strategies in times of growth and change.
The South Dakota native spent the previous five years with the Los Angeles Rams, most recently serving as Communications Specialist. Langer joined the Rams during their relocation from St. Louis to Los Angeles and was involved in developing and shaping media relations plans and efforts specific to the football side of the Rams organization.
No stranger to collegiate athletics, Langer cut his teeth in his alma mater's athletic department, Black Hills State University, during his undergraduate education. With the Yellow Jackets, he helped BHSU transition from the NAIA to an NCAA Division II member. He received his bachelor's degree in mass communication/public relations with a commercial arts minor.
Following nearly four years in the Black Hills State Athletic Department, Langer completed a graduate assistantship in the athletic communications office at Minnesota State University where he worked primarily with volleyball, women's basketball and softball. At MSU, he received his master's degree in sport management.
In addition to his graduate assistantship and coursework, Langer spent two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings as a training camp and gameday staffer from 2012-14. Upon graduation, he joined the Vikings as a seasonal intern for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. In his two seasons interning with the Vikings, Langer helped the organization transition from the H.H.H Metrodome, to TCF Bank Stadium, before settling into U.S. Bank Stadium.
Travis and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Trudeau, originally met in Minnesota. Together they have three kids, Colton Hern, Norah Hern and Paisley Langer.
Sports Information Director, Gene McGivern, will continue in his current role.
Langer will be the communications contact for football and men's basketball and oversee the communications efforts of all St. Thomas Athletic Programs.
