Freshman leads Men's CC in opening race

Freshman Zach Haire had a fourth-place finish in a field of 50 runners to lead Tommie Men's Cross Country in its season-opening race Saturday morning at the four-team Crown College Invite.
St. Thomas held out its top five runners. Its partial squad placed second with 47 points behind winner Gustavus (17).
Haire, a native of Breckenridge, Minn., built a 150-meter lead over the first two-thirds of the four-mile race before three GAC runners moved ahead in the final mile.
Other Tommie top-20 fiinshers were Adam Ebent, ninth in 21:15; freshman Sam Theisen (12th, 21:19); sophomore Keegan Sansone (13th, 21:20); freshman Adam McCollar (17th, 21:31); senior Collin Kiley (19th, 21:36); and freshman Colton Halla (20th, 21:40).
The Toms compete Sept. 11 in the Summit Cup dual meet against Macalester.
