Jersey boys: Men's CC run to fast times at Rowan

Senior Karl Wachter and George McGivern has personal-best times for 8,000 meters and had top-30 individual finishes to lead Tommie Men's Cross Country Saturday to sixth place out of 29 teams in a strong field at the Rowan (N.J.) Intra-Region Rumble race.

No. 7-ranked Carnegie-Mellon won with 51 points followed by No. 8-ranked Johns Hopkins (54); No. 5-ranked SUNY-Geneseo (66); No. 25-ranked Haverford (194); No. 32-ranked New York University (198); St. Thomas (200); and No. 22-ranked Dickenson (228).

Wachter clocked 24:29 and placed sixth in a field of 256 finishers. McGivern ran 25:05 for 29th place.

The other four Purple runners placed in the top 100, also with personal-best times over the 8K distance: sophomore Biel Wiel (44th, 25:21); junior Carl Kozlowski (62nd, 25:39); senior Collin Kiley (77th, 25:55); and sophomore Keegan Sansone (96th, 26:08).

 

La Crosse race

St. Thomas also had a pack of athletes competing at the UW-La Crosse Invite. In a field of 400 runners, freshmen Adam McCollor (102nd, 26:54) and Morey Smith (117th, 27:05) led the Tommies. 

The Purple compete Nov. 2 at the MIAC Championships at Carleton.
