Gerhartz leads Men's CC at nationals

Sophomore Jacob Gerhartz placed 112th in 25:26 to lead St. Thomas to a 31st-place finsh at Saturday's NCAA cross country championships in Mason, Ohio.
Gerhartz placed in the top half of the 280 finishers with a impressive time given the slow, muddy course.
UST put its 2-3-4-5 finishers in a 34-second pack and all of the ran 26:15 or better:
- Junior Dylan Baumann placed 168th in 25:41;
- Senior Robby Williams was 218th in 26:03;
- Senior Brian Anderson was 220th in 26:04;
- Sophomore Trevor Smith took 238th in 26:15.
Senior Ben Rascher was 264th in 26:48. Senior Sam Bach was 268th in 26:53.
All seven Tommies were competing in their first national meet, cross country or track and field.
St. Olaf fell a hair short of repeating as NCAA champion with a second-place finish at 143, 13 behind North Central (Ill.). Carleton placed 18th with 472.
