Men's CC runs to third place at Conf. meet

Sophomore Jacob Gerhartz and junior Dylan Baumann earned All-MIAC distinction with top-15 individual finishes Saturday to lead Tommie Men's Cross Country to third out of 11 teams at the MIAC Championships at St. Paul's Como Golf Course.
UST put 11 runners in the top 75 in a field of 227 runners.
St. Olaf stormed to the title with an impressive 16 points. Carleton (72), St. Thomas (105), St. John's (120), Hamline (132) and Gustavus (155) took places 2-3-4-5-6.
Gerhartz clocked 25:32 for 10th, as he improved nine places and 42 seconds from his 2013 MIAC finish.
Baumann took 12th in 25:57 and improved 12 spots and 35 seconds from 2013.
Senior Robby Williams (18th 26:08) and soph Trevor Smith (30th, 26:35) also had top-30 finishes, and senior Brian Anderson was the fifth man as he took 37th in 26:49.
Williams improved seven places and 24 seconds from 2013, while Smith improved nine spots and 30 seconds from his 2013 MIAC performance.
Junior Nick Jackson was 53rd in 27:07, an improvement of 61 places and 1:33 from his 2013 showing.
Senior Sam Bach was 54th in 27:08, which was 16 spots and 36 seconds better than his 2013 performance.
The Toms had four others place in the top 75:
- Freshman Andrew Fritz was 57th in 27:12;
- Junior Tyler Krpan was 62nd in 27:19;
- Freshman Tim Van Laarhoven was 71st in 27:28;
- Soph Tommy Linder was 73rd in 27:31.
UST competes Nov. 15 at the NCAA Regional Championships in Pella, Iowa.
