Tom Hamper graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1941. As a student, Hamper won the Hillcrest Club Championship (1938) and tied for the State College Golf Championship (1940). He represented St. Thomas in four major golf tournaments in 1940, and played in the 1940 Los Angeles Open.
