Tom Gibbons graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1907. After he graduated, he went on to a professional boxing career with an overall record of 102-4. He lost a 15-round decision to Jack Dempsey for the World Heavyweight Crown in 1923. The only fight he ever lost by knockout or TKO was in 1925 to eventual champ Gene Tunney. After retiring from boxing, Gibbons was elected and served 24 years as the Ramsey County Sherriff.
