Smitty F. Eggleston graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1950. In 1949, Eggleston set the outdoor long-jump record (24 feet) and the indoor long-jump record (23 feet 8 inches). He was a member of three MIAC Track CHampionship winning teams (1948, 1949, and 1950), and was a starter on the 1948 Cigar Bowl football team.
