Penny Thompson Starkey graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1993. She was a two-time All-American and two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in volleyball. As a senior, Thompson Starkey was named conference MVP. She was a four-time All-MIAC honoree, and graduated as the St. Thomas career leader in kills (1,592), digs (1,532), and aces (207). She led the Tommies to MIAC titles and NCAA region finals berths in 1990, 1991, and 1992.
