Ken Staples graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1959. Out of high school, Staples signed with the Dodgers, playing 10 seasons in the minor leagues. He enrolled at St. Thomas and was a student-coach for the baseball and hockey teams from 1956-59. After graduation, Staples was a coach, manager, and scout in the Minnesota Twins organization.
