Chris Olean graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1999. As a student, Olean was a conference MVP and a first-team All-American as a senior (0.60 ERA, 97 strikeouts, 6 walks). He helped the Tommies become the first MIAC team to reach the College World Series in 1999, and was named to the 12-player All-Tournament Team at the College World Series. He broke the modern St. Thomas career strikeout record (246 in 248 innings). His 24-8 career record included a 15-1 record against MIAC teams. After graduating, he became an assistant coach for St. Thomas, and tutored pitchers on the 2001 and 2009 NCAA title teams. He was named Interim Head Coach in 2010, guiding his firt team to a MIAC championship. He was taken in the 17th round of the MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, and threw a one-hitter in a complete-game win in April of 2000 for the Beloit Snappers.
