1984 men’s cross country NCAA team champions — the first national title in St. Thomas Athletics history… team of eight runners won both the MIAC and NCAA Region meets, with Pete Wareham claiming individual titles at both… three All-Americans at nationals: Wareham, Tom Faust and Nick Manciu… followed up by winning the 1985 NCAA Indoor Track and Field team championship behind nine All-America performances… program’s first MIAC indoor team title… three indoor program records set: Neal Guggemos in triple jump (46-7), Rich Harkwell in 400 meters (49.6), and Chris Unger in 600 meters (1:13.0)… seven MIAC event champions: Guggemos (long jump, triple jump), Harkwell (400), Unger (600), Mike Murray (pole vault), Addison Kilibarda (1,000), and John Bielinski (5,000)… national meet All-Americans included Guggemos (3rd, long jump), Paul Woodward (6th, long jump), Murray (3rd, pole vault), Dave Knezovich (2nd, shot put), Bryan Bennett (3rd, shot put), Dave McKeag (5th, shot put), Faust (3rd, 5,000), Wareham (5th, 5,000), and Bielinski (6th, 5,000).
