20250716 AARC Facility Facts

Built in 2010, the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex (AARC) serves as the central building for the University of St. Thomas' NCAA Division I athletics program. With over 180,000 square feet of usable space, the AARC is a state of the art facility that has assisted St. Thomas athletics in becoming one of the premier Division I programs in the country.

Aesthetically pleasing from the outside, the AARC features an exterior comprised of glass and Kasota Limestone, common among St. Thomas architecture. Its three floors house varsity athletics competition and practice spaces, along with recreation and the Health and Human Performance department.

The first floor is home to Schoenecker Arena, the competition venue for Tommie Volleyball. The AARC Aquatic Center is also located on the first floor, home to the men's and women's swimming and diving teams.  In addition, a 4,500 square foot cardio room and a 7,000 square foot weight room are available to both student-athletes and the general student population. The main floor also houses 16 team locker rooms, two general locker rooms, two staff locker rooms, as well as additional visitor and officials locker rooms. A state-of-the-art Athletic Training room, fueling station, golf simulator, meeting spaces, and the athletic department's equipment room round out the first floor.

The building's second floor features office and classroom space for the university's Health and Human Performance department. In addition, a 49,500 square foot field house is home to the university's men's and women's track and field teams. A multi-purpose venue, it is utilized for competition, as well as practices for a number of St. Thomas varsity sports in the winter months. The Athletics Hall of Fame is also housed on the second floor.

The Athletic Department offices and meeting spaces can be found on the third floor, as well as additional premium seating for both Schoenecker Arena and the Aquatic Center.
