Women’s Golf finishes strong at Badger Invitational

The Tommies toppled two Power 4 programs in Iowa and Nebraska at their very competitive season-opening tournament.

MADISON, Wis. – Tommie Women's Golf finished in ninth place and ahead of two Power 4 programs at the Badger Invitational over three days to kick off the 2024-25 season. Senior, Isabelle Lynch polished off a great tournament with a ninth-place finish. 
 
The Tommies posted their lowest scoring round as a team with a 297 (+9), a six-stroke improvement on the day before. They rose one spot on the team leaderboard and finished above Iowa, Nebraska, Augusta, and USF. Their final score of 307-303-297—907 (+43) landed them three strokes behind Florida International and four strokes behind Rutgers and Yale who tied for sixth place. Delaware won the competition at 22 strokes-over-par. 
 
Isabelle Lynch played the most consistent golf among her teammates. The senior scored 73-73-74—220 (+4) for a ninth-place finish. She lit up the scoresheet with five birdies, two on the front and three on the back, but also scored bogeys on seven day-three holes. Lynch finished three strokes behind a three-way tie for third place. The tournament's individual winner was Grace Jin of Sam Houston State who scored 69-71-72-212 (-4). 
 
Making her collegiate debut and skyrocketing 17 places on the third day was freshman Amelia Morton. She carded an even-par round, an improvement of four strokes from her best the previous day. Morton snuck into the top-20 in a six-way tie for 19th place with a 77-76-72—225 (+9). She finished the tournament with great poise going three-under over her last 10 holes with birdies on 9, 11, and 12. 
 
Kathryn VanArragon wrapped up her tournament in 34th place with a 77-75-77—229 (+13). Emma Davies shot two-over-par and birdied holes 1, 2, and 8. The Tommies' final scoring golfer improved on her best round of the tournament by five strokes and launched 13 places into 46thon the final day.
 
Nicole Reineke matched her 79 (+7) in the second round and finished play in 66th place with a score of 84-79-79—242 (+26). Mallory Belka finished in 73rd place with an 83-84-80—247 (+31) while competing as an individual.

"I am very proud of the way we played in the face of a tough test here at the Badger Invitational. To defeat two Power 4 programs is something to be excited about and we hope to carry this momentum into the rest of this season. Isabelle Lynch finished strong in the top 10 while Amelia, Emma, and Mallory all shot their low rounds of the tournament today."
