Tommie Men's and Women's Swim & Dive comes off a 47-day, mid-season break after last competing Dec. 2-4 at the SCSU Rochester Invitational and the Roger Ahlman Invitational.
Five records fell between both the men's and women's programs at the SCSU Rochester Invitational, hosted by St. Cloud State in Rochester, Minn. Grace Urkiel and Joe Rudd each broke the program records in the 100 breaststroke. Urkiel set the new women's time at 1:03.11 while Rudd set the men's record at 54.98.
Blake Baertlein, Rudd and Urkiel each broke their own program records to wrap up the SCSU Rochester Invitational. Baertlein broke his own record in the 100 IM with a time of 52.56, taking second in the event.
Rudd also broke his own record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:59.34. He took first in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.65. Urkiel broke her own record in the 200 breaststroke with at time of 2:20.34. She won both breaststroke events and took third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.12.
Through the meet, the Tommies finished with five event wins as Elizabeth Bonneville won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.87, which ranks fifth all-time at St. Thomas. Her preliminary race time of 23.80 ranks third all-time.
At the Roger Ahlman Invitational, Sophie Curran recorded the women's only wins of the meet in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.86 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.04.
Adam Skrzeszewski brought in the men's lone win of the meet in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.49.
In total, the women finished with 10 top-three finishes, including four relays. Georgina Sugrue took second in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:13.00, which ranks as the 14th fastest in program history.
The men ended the Roger Ahlman Invitational with five top-three finishes.
