Senior Karl Wachter on the men's side and sophomore Olvia Moll on the women's side received MIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Wachter, a Shakopee High grad, had his debut race of 2019 and posted a 36-second win over runner-up Jake Lepak of Macalester on Sept. 11 to help the Tommies edge the Scots 28-29 in the annual Summit Cup dual meet. Wachter clocked 21:04 for four miles and took first out of 36 runners.
The Tommie men are ranked fourth in the NCAA North Region by the USTFCCA.
A Hammond, Wis., native, Moll took first in a field of 139 runners at Saturday's Luther All-American race in Decorah, Iowa, to lead No. 19-ranked St. Thomas to first place among 10 college teams. It was Moll's second meet win in as many races early this fall season.
The Tommies put seven runners among the first eight collegiate finishers and had a 30-second-split among the top seven.
Moll (18:55) and senior teammate Katie Breuckman (18:59) broke 19:00 on the 5,000-meter course.
Both St. Thomas CC teams remain in the national top 35 polls this week:
