Women's CC 13th at pre-Nationals race

Sophomore Sara Ness placed 41st in a field of 332 finishers Saturday to lead Tommie Women's Cross Country to 13th place out of 36 teams at the Pre-Nationals race in Elsah, Ill.

Ness clocked 23:01 for 6,000 meters, her second best time thus far of her two-year college career.

The Toms put seven runners in the top 132. Junior Jenny Launder (23:12) placed 55th; sophomore Becca Wilkin (23:41) placed 85th; senior Melissa Marsh (23:42) took 89th; senior Amber Matzoll (24:00) was 109th; senior Jenny Walz (24:04) took 114th; senior Ali Glassbrenner (24:18) was 132th. Senior Megan Gossfeld and freshman Carly Scheureman placed 144th and 145th with the same final time of 24:25.

The Tommie women also had a team compete at the UW-La Crosse Invite. Molly Clarke placed 60th in 23:57 to lead the Tommies. Bridget Schmitt took 107th in 24:47.

St. Thomas is off competition next weekend and will race Oct. 28 at the MIAC Championships at St. Olaf.
