Quick strikes send Women's Hockey to 15-0-1 start

No. 3-ranked St. Thomas Women's Hockey used a four-goal second period to take control in Saturday's 5-2 road win over Bethel in MIAC play in Blaine.

The Tommies (15-0-1 overall, 9-0-1 MIAC) ran their NCAA-best unbeaten streak to 29 games (23-0-6). Coach Tom Palkowsli's team remained ahead of second-place Hamline by two points atop the standings with eight games to play.

St. Thomas closed out a weekend sweep and had eight different players score their nine goals on the weekend. Sam Auman, Estee Frantz, Anna Solheim, Allison Parnell and Rachel Werdin scored goals for the Purple.

Kenzie Torpy (15-0-1) stopped nine shots as she played into the third period and claimed her 58th career win in the nets.

The scored was tied after one period 1-1. The Toms went ahead to stay with two goals in a 2:30 span early in the second frame. After the Royals pulled within 3-2, the Toms regained their cushion as they added two goals in a 26-second span just before the end of the second fgamesrame.

The Toms play two games next weekend at Concordia-Moorhead.
