Softball moves to No. 3; Kierstin named playoff MVP

Tommie Softball climbed one spot to No. 3 in the final poll before the national playoffs start this weekend.

St. Thomas (38-5) has won 23 of its last 24 games. The Toms open national tournament play Thursday at home in a four-team, double-elimination regional set for Thursday thrugh Saturday. No. 25-ranked UW-Eau Claire, Wartburg and Northwestern-St. Paul are also in the regional here this weekend.

The Purple won the MIAC playoff championship with a 3-0 run at home last weekend. That's the 14th conference playoff title for St. Thomas in the 16-year history of the event.

Junior Kierstin Anderson-Glass was named playoffs MVP, and was joined on the all-tournament team by freshman DP Megan Baniecke and junior 3B Elise Barnes. Anderson-Glass went 3-0 with no runs allowed over 25 innings.

Since April 6, Anderson-Glass is 15-0 with just four runs allowed in 89 innings with 62 strikeouts and six walks (two of those intentional).
