No. 2-ranked Tommie Softball posted 22 hits on the day and posted a 4-2, 9-3 sweep of second-place St. Catherine in Saturday's MIAC doubleheader at South Field.
St. Thomas secured the program's 18th MIAC championship in 20 seasons, and the seniors made it 4-for-4 in league crowns. The Purple locked up the playoff's top seed and will play host to the four-team conference playoffs May 3-5.
The Tommies (35-5 overall, 19-3 MIAC) have won 20 of their last 21 games. They improved to 8-2 at home this season after a 16-0 home-field run in 2018.
UST 4, SCU 2
Kierstin Anderson-Glass (18-3) allowed two runs, eight hits and no walks with six strikeouts in a complete-game win, and had an RBI single for an insurance run.
Dana Connelly's two-out, two-run single in the third inning put the Purple ahead to stay.
Over her last 36 innings of pitching, Anderson-Glass has allowed just two runs and no walks with 35 strikeouts.
UST 9, SCU 3
Melissa Barry had three hits and Connelly drove in three runs to lead a 13-hit attack as the Tommies completed a sweep. The two through five hitters in the lineup for St. Thomas had nine of the 13 hits.
Marketon took a complete-game pitching win and added an RBI double at the plate.
