Coach Pete Wareham's UST team held out four of its top runners from the 5,000-meter race and placed fourth of nine teams. No. 17-ranked Wartburg put six runners in the top 11 and won the event with 21 points.
Koslowski, who starred in cross country and track and field at Lake City, made his college racing debut and placed ninth in 16:57. McGivern took 12th in 17:03.
UST had five others place in the top 35 out of 91 total finishers. Sophomores Scott Helstad (17th, 17:14) and Spencer Urick (19th, 17:19) and juniors Seth Glidewell (26th, 17:32) and Bailey LaChance (32nd, 17:40) and freshman Erik Sworski (34th, 17:41).
St. Thomas will send a partial team to Moorhead on Sept. 8 for the Minnesota State Moorhead Twilight competition.
