Junior Ben Frazzini shot three-under-par 68 on Sunday to take medalist honors in a field of 120 players and lead No. 22-ranked St. Thomas to a two-stroke victory over Gustavus in the 13-team SJU fall tournament.
The two-day, 36-hole tourney concluded Sunday at the Blackberry Ridge course in Sartell.
This was the ninth victory in a multi-team tournament for Tommie Men's Golf since September 2017.
The Tommies played even-par 284 on the day after shooting 10-over-par on a different course on Saturday. They closed at 582, to edge closest pursuers Gustavus (584), UW-Eau Claire (587), Manitob (590), and St. John's (597). The St. Thomas B team placed sixth at 604.
A transfer from the Minnesota Gophers' squad, Frazzini took a three-shot win over GAC's Jacob Pedersen, who matched his 68 on Sunday. Frazzini birdied three of his first six holes and parred his way in, as he recorded 15 pars on the day.
Jack Nasby, playing on the Toms' No. 2 team, shot 73-71/144 and tied for third.
Senior Ben Kisla closed with a 71 and tied for sixth place at 146. Senior Emmet Herb shot 71 on Sunday -- his seventh score of 71 or better in nine fall rounds. Juniors Peder Larson and Miles McCarthy each shot 3-over 74s to help the Pueple hold off Gustavus.
Sam Tollette from the St. Thomas B team shot 68 on Sunday to tie Frazzini and Pedresen for the day's best score.
The Toms play in the three-day Twin Cities Classic starting next Saturday.
No. 22-ranked St. Thomas shot 298 and sits one shot out of the lead at the halfway point of the 17-team St. John's tournament in Sartell. The final 18 holes will be contested on Sunday.
Gustavus and St. John's share the lead at 297. Six teams are within seven shots of the lead.
Tommie junior Ben Frazzini shot even-par 72 and is tied for second place in a field of 119 players. Miles McCarthy used three late birdies to shoot 2-over 74 and is tied for 13th. Ben Kisla (75), Peder Larson (77) and Emmet Herb (80) rounded out the Purple lineup.
