Tommie senior All-America Emmet Herb on Tuesday was named MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week.
Herb, who shared the award the previous week, has been recognized with this award four times on his St. Thomas career.
The Middleton, Wis., native led the No. 22-ranked Tommies to a repeat team crown at last weekend's eight-team Pioneer Collegiate tourney in Maple Plain, Minn. Herb recorded an 8-under par score of 208 (70-69-69) over 54 holes.
Herb led all 66 Division III players and beat 26 of the 27 Division I golfers competing. He took second out of 93 players, just two shots behind the medalist, Texas A&M's Brandon Smith (206).
Herb has recorded 20 career under-par collegiate rounds, including all four of his rounds this season. He's posted seven collegiate rounds in the 60s.
His No. 22-ranked St. Thomas squad topped runner-up Gustavus by 16 shots, and also topped MIAC teams Augsburg, St. John's, Bethel and Carleton.
Coach Scott Proshek's Tommies, who placed 15th at the national meet last May, will travel to Palm Beach, Fla., for the Saturday-Sunday NCAA Preview meet.
The 18-team field includes 13 nationally-ranked Division III teams, including the Nos. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-10-12 squads in Illinois Wesleyan, Emory, Huntingdon, Guilford, Methodist, Wittenberg, Carnegie-Mellon, Concordia-Texas and Hampden-Sydney.
