Women's Basketball falls to No.8 Wheaton

No. 10-ranked St. Thomas Women's Basketball broke to a 12-point lead early in quarter No. 2 but eventully dropped a 66-58 decision Tuesday to No. 8-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) in the first round of the Wartburg tournament in Waverly, Iowa.
The Tommies (8-2) outscored the Thunder (8-1) 30-15 from 3-point range and had a 42-37 edge in rebounds but committed 17 turnovers to just eight for the winners.
Freshman Lucia Renikoff had 14 points and Kaitlin Langer added 10 points and 13 rebounds. Kaylie Brazil chipped in 10 points, and Katie Stone scored eight.
Wheaton's Katie McDaniel scored 12 points and Chantal Meachum added nine points, seven assists and six rebounds.
UST plays the consolation game Wednesday at 1 p.m. against the loser between Wartburg and No. 5-ranked UW-Oshkosh.

Tommie Women's Basketball is in Iowa for a pair of tough tests Dec. 29-30 at the four-team Wartburg College tournament.
The No. 10-ranked Tommies (8-1) face No. 8-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) (7-1) Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The Toms are playing their first game since Dec. 12 when they lost 67-63 at St. Catherine. That ended UST's 35-game regular-season win streak
Wheaton finished 24-4 last season and lost a first-round game in overtime in the NCAA playoffs.
Tuesday's other game pits 9-0 and No. 5-ranked UW-Oshkosh against 8-1 Wartburg at 4 p.m.
Tuesday's winners play Wednesday at 3 p.m., while the third-place game is set for 1 p.m.
These four teams had a 94-23 combined record last season and come into this week with a collective 32-3 mark.
