St. Thomas seniors Kelly Russ (800) and Kylee Crotty (javelin) hit NCAA automatic qualifying performances at Wednesday's Tommie Twilight track and field meet at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.

Despite unrelenting winds, Russ placed fourth among several Unversity of Minnesota runners and clocked 2:10.78 to post the fourth-best time of 2010 in Division III. It also was the second-best 800-meter time in St. Thomas history, just off Erin Sparngers' 2:09.97 clocking at LaCrosse in May 2009.

Crotty threw 145-4 to win the javelin. She improved her own school record and moved up to third on the Division III season-best list in her event.

Molly Demmer tied for first in the 200 in a season-best 25.77 and placed second in the 400 in 59.85.

UST had other second-place finishes by Laura Janas in the 100 hurdles (15.42) and Jenna Lewis in the hammer (147-7). Lewis also placed seventh in the discus (117-1) and eighth in the shot put (37-11 1-4).

Thirds were scored by Julianna Gorder in the long jump in a season-best 16-11 1-4) and Jenna Ewing in the 100 meters (12.73).

Nicole Flackey (142-1) and Megan Honan (137-1) placed 4-5 in the hammer. Rachel Borka was fourth in the javelin (104-11). Felisha Willaert was fifth in the discus (131-2). Becky Theisen tied fof fifth in the long jump (16-5 1-4) and fifth in the 400 hurdles (68.08). Raynee DeGrio was fifth in the steeplechase (12:00.57). Traci Pastoors was fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.58).

In the 1,500, Taylor Berg (4:49.74) and Allie Metzler (4:51.46) placed sixth and seventh. In the 800, Larissa Peyton was 10th and the third D-III finisher (2:17.84). Julia Brandes was seventh in the steeplechase (12:09.73). In the pole vault, Angela McGehee was 10th (10-6 1-4). In the shot put, Flackey was sixth (39-8 1-2) and Amy Maas was 10th (36-5 3-4).
