May 24, 2012

The Tommie women's track and field team qualified both its 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams and junior 1,500 runner Taylor Berg to Saturday's finals on the opening day of Thursday's NCAA Championships in Claremont, Calif.

UST's 4x400 relay clocked 3:47.22 for the third fastest qualifying time with Angela Tipp, Erika Tipp, Larissa Peyton and Emily Van Heel. The 4x100 team clocked 47.24 for the fifth fastest time with Mallory Burnham, Van Heel, Christina Rozeske and Angela Tipp.

The 4x100 and 4x400 teams extended an impressive St. Thomas outdoor track streak of 31 consecutive years with at least one UST men's or women's team advancing to a relays final at nationals.

Berg clocked 4:35.08 for the fifth best time of the 12 qualifiers in the 1,500.

Amy Maas threw 140-10 in the discus and was unable to make the finals to finish 11th. Rozeske (100) and Peyton (800) will run Friday in prelims.
