St. Thomas women’s track and field athletes fared well Sunday at Macalester.
Tommie throwers swept the top three spots in the hammer throw. Finishing in first, with a season best 153-7, was Haley Zajac, followed closely by Amy Maas and Hannah Volkman, who threw 147-7 and 137-5, respectfully. Zajac also recorded a distance of 37-8 1-2 in the shot put, good for fourth, and a distance of 117-9 in the discus toss, earning her a fifth-place finish. Maas also won the discus (138-11). Volkman placed third in the shot put (37-11 1-4) and third in the discus (128-9 3-4).
In track events, Katie Ryan took a close second in the 100 hurdles (16.05), followed in third by Meredith Rothstein (16.36). In the 400 hurdles, Jackie Destache finished third (1:08.72). Maggie Harris took third in the 200 (26.89) and a sixth in the 100 dash (12.93). Nara Nelson took fourth with a 11:42.26 time in the 3000.
