The St. Thomas women's track and field team won four of six events Friday and takes a 14-point lead in Saturday's final round of the MIAC Championships at Hamline University.
UST has 67 points to lead closest pursuers Gustavus 53, Concordia-Moorhead 50.5 and Hamline 28.5.
Tommie sophomore Nikki Arola won her qualifying heat of the 400 meters with a career-best 56.81 time that lowers her NCAA Provisional qualifying time.Arola also ran on the Tommies' 4x100 relay which broke a meet record in Friday's prelims in 47.84. That time also lowers a provisional qualifying time.
UST's 4x800 team of Erin Sprangers, Betsy Hupp, Kelly Russ and Katie Theisen won in a meet-record time of 9:08.67. Selina Dehn won the long jump in 17-8 1-4 anf took fourth in the high jump in 5-1 3-4. Shara Guidry won the discus in 142-11 and took second in the hammer in 152-11. Carol Comp won the hammer in 160-6. Alyssa Salomone was second in the high jump in 5-3. Jenna Lewis is sixth in the discus in 129-5 and seventh in the hammer in 131-8. Julianna Gorder was eighth in the 16-3 1-4.
