St. Thomas placed second out of 13 teams in the women's Distance Medley Relay Friday morning at the Drake Relays in Des Moines. Kelly Russ, Nikki Arola, Erin Sprangers and Katie Theisen clocked 1:48.80 and finished four seconds behind winner Olivet Nazarene.
UST also hit an NCAA provisional qualiying time in the 4x100 relay with a 48.65 clocking good for 11th of 28 entrants. Jenna Ewing, Arola, Kate Staat and Shionna Evans comprised the relay.
In Saturday morning's 4x800 relay, UST placed second of 13 teams in 9:10.22, four seconds behind first-place Olivet. Raynee DeGrio, Sprangers, Russ and Theisen comprised the relay. UST also placed 14th in the sprint medley in 4:14.93 with Staat, Selina Dehn, Evans and Betsy Hupp.
The Tommies also had several athletes compete at Friday's Simpson Invitational near Des Molines. Anne Iddins took first in the steeplechase in 11:14.97. Dehn was third in the triple jump in 37-6, just under her provisional mark of 38-1 achieved earlier this month. Dehn also sailed 17-0 in the long jump and 4-11 3-4 in the high jump. In the 400, Arola took fourth in 58.98 and DeGrio clocked 61.83. In the 4x100 relay, UST ran 49.18. In the 1000, Ewing ran 12.89 and Staat ran 13.11. In the 1,500, Kalsey Larson ran 5:05.11. In the 100 hurdles, Laura Janas ran 16.33. In the 800, Hupp ran 2:28. In the shot put, Carol Comp threw 132-1. In the hammer, Comp threw 145-0; Megan Honan had a 127-8 best and Felisha Willaert threw 114-2.
Saturday's Macalester Invite has been cancelled.
St. Thomas will host Wednesday's Tommie Twilight meet in O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
