Theisen, Comp, Dehn shine for Women's Track

The St. Thomas women's indoor track and field team improved on several of their previous NCAA provisional times and marks at Saturday's University of Minnesota Parents' Day competition in Minneapolis.

The Tommies had three provisional qualifiers in the 800 meters -- and just missed a fourth. Katie Theisen placed second out of 37 entrants in a school-record time of 2:14.42. That improved her previous provisional time and broke a record held by Tish Dusich. Kelly Russ placed fourth in 2:16.04 and Erin Sprangers placed fifth in 2:16.13, also under the standard of 2:16.90. Freshman Raynee DeGrio placed eighth in 2:16.95. Theisen's time ranks seventh in D-III, just 1.05 second out of third. Theisen also placed ffith in the triple jump in 35-3 1-4.  

Senior Carol Comp won the weight throw in 54-1 1-4. That improved both her provosional mark and school record, and ranks her fifth in Division III this winter.   UST also won the 800-meter relay in 1:48.71 with seniors Kate Staat and Selina Dehn, freshman Jenna Ewing, and junior Shionna Evans. UST placed second in the 4x400 relay in 4:02.97.  

Sophomore Nikki Arola placed second in the 400 meters in 59.61 and fourth in the 200 meters in 25.97. Both are season-best times and lead the MIAC honor roll.  

Dehn also placed second in the triple jump in 37-8 1-2, just short of her season best of 38-2 1-4 whch ranks first nationally. Dehn also placed fifth in the long jump in 17-1 1-4.  

Freshman Allie Metzler placed fifth in the 3000 in 10:34.16; Alyssa Salomone placed fourth in the high jump in 5-2 1-2; and Laura Janas placed seventh in the 60 hurdles in 9.45.
